In Paradise With: Ordonez

Today we want to present to you Ordoñez, one of the biggest electronic artists in Ecuador. He grew up listening to rock bands such as The Doors and the legendary Latin American Soda Stereo, and it was not until high school that he developed a taste for electronic music.

Since then, he has had quite a few successes! His track “The Spells” got selected by Defected Records as the #33 of 2015, and he is today a resident of Lost Beach House, one of the best clubs in the world.

You can listen to his latest track “Love by Myself”, from the label Jack City Records, on your favourite music platform. Read the full interview below:

Q: What is your original hometown & your current residency place?

A: Cuenca, Ecuador.

Q: Tell us in a short way about your musical background & early influences.

A: As a kid in Ecuador I had to listen a little bit of everything while listening to rock bands like The Doors or Soda Stereo we were also constantly exposed to Latin American dance music like salsa, cumbia & merengue at your relatives parties as well as sad ballads an boleros at home. When I got into high school, I started developing my taste for electronic music, Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Dj Keoki, Josh Wink where some of the artists you could get your hands on back in the day since the music market here wasn’t that big. I think Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique video introduced me heavily into house music and I couldn’t go back.

Q: What is your favorite digital service to discover fresh new music?

A:To be honest in terms of dance music I discover new artists that release in my favorite labels, for other kinds of music I use Spotify but only when I take a break from the studio

Q: What is the very first musical product you acquired or discovered?

A: Metallica, The Black Album.

Q: Which of your own projects is exciting you the most at the moment?

A: I’m really excited about what can happen this year. 3 top class labels asked to release my music we are in talks to clear the samples right now but without a doubt my own NFT record label it’s the biggest thing on my plate at the moment.

Q: Which are your proudest musical achievement and a genuine milestone in your career?

A: When I started producing seriously, I released “The Spell” on Mother Recordings shortly after that Defected selected my track as the 33rd best track in 2015 and included it in their Most Hear 2016 compilation, that really blew my mind since I’ve been a Defected fan since forever. I also gotta say selling my tracks as NFTs and making real revenue of the songs I produce, finding people that are really interested in supporting the artists has a special place in my heart.

A: What is your dream gig and performance location today?

Every single place where DJ and people enjoy my music is my dream gig, especially in countries where people get connected with the music and it’s not about showing off.
